Matt Thomases has sculpted in clay and cast more than 60 works in bronze. Since 2000, he has welded steel to create large outdoor sculptures including several “drawings in air.” In 2012-13 he created a 15' Abstract Tree made of stained glass on stainless steel. His bronzes are unusual in the diversity of their themes and artistic styles. The major bronze sculpture groups include: Dancers, Abstract Heads, Cubist Landscape Reliefs, Busts of Famous Artists, sensual Organic Shapes and abstract Dance Calligraphies inspired by ancient Chinese writing. Thomases’ works reveal a strong sense of rhythm and motion. Many have commented on his lyrical lines and the sense of music that flows from his sculptures.
